Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An ovoid carnelian intaglio engraved with a profile image of Minerva, the goddess of wisdom and warfare. She stands with a spear in her left hand, a shield at her side, and a helmet on her head. In her right hand is a faint winged shape, perhaps the goddess Victory. The verso is polished smooth and the carnelian has creamy white inclusions on the surface. This lovely intaglio could be put into a modern setting to create a wearable piece of jewelry! Size: .625" L x .5" W (1.6 cm x 1.3 cm)
