Roman, Republic Period, ca. 1st century BCE; Western Europe, probably England or France, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful and wearable gilt copper ring of delicate form with a slender shank and a circular bezel. Within the bezel is a hand-carved carnelian intaglio with an incised image of a warrior on the front. The left-facing figure leans over to secure greaves to his shin while holding a sword or dagger in his left hand; a shield faces away from the figure behind the man's back. Size (intaglio): 0.38" L x 0.35" W x 0.09" H (1 cm x 0.9 cm x 0.2 cm); (ring setting): 0.46" L x 0.74" W x 0.76" H (1.2 cm x 1.9 cm x 1.9 cm); metal quality: 36.28% copper, 33.97% gold (equivalent to 8K+); 29.22% silver; weight: 1.7 grams; US ring size: 6
