Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A trio of cast leaded-bronze appliques comprised of flat, circular versos with relief and etched visages on the obverse. The largest is a clean shaven and rounded face - of a goddess or child - with a thick coiffure pulled back at the ears. The next is a rondel of the gorgon Medusa, her snake hair cascading to her shoulders. The third is a petite and more stylized face that may represent a theater mask. Size of largest: 1.25" Diameter (3.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000
