Description:

**Originally Listed At $250**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. An intriguing, thick-bottomed bottle composed of near-opaque, verdant green glass with a concave base and a smooth pontil scar, a roughly triangular body with four indented sides, a rounded shoulder with a lightly-pinched neck base, and a tall, flared rim with a fire-polished lip. The body of the vessel leans to one side as a result of mishandling the bottle during the formative process, though this malformation only adds to its overall aesthetic. Thick areas of silver iridescence cover most of the exterior, and scattered areas of rainbow iridescence provide a nice chromatic complementarity to the emerald-hued glass. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 1.8" W x 4.2" H (4.6 cm x 10.7 cm).

  • Condition: Oblong bottle shape is a result of its creation during ancient times. Minor nicks to base, shoulder, and rim, and some light abrasions, otherwise intact and very good. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown. (The absence of such a mark would suggest the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time.) Nice earthen deposits and silver iridescence throughout, with scattered areas of rainbow iridescence as well.
