Roman Judaea, Imperial Period, ca. 100 CE. A lovely, mold-made pottery equine figure, standing upon its legs and presenting a proud form that is nicely detailed with incised bridle and reins. Horses signified power and military prowess in the ancient world. In addition, they were symbolic of the god Neptune as well as the Roman legions. Size: 4.125" L x 3.875" H (10.5 cm x 9.8 cm)

Provenance: private Knoxville, Tennessee, USA collection, purchased from Harmer Rooke Numismatists, Ltd. In February 14, 1978
