Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A miniature cast bronze bull head with nice details, horns and ears splayed out from the top of its head, and lifelike eyes and forelock. Bucrania were common forms of applied decoration in the Roman world, with the motif repeated in architectural features, on pottery, on furniture, etc. They celebrated the religious practice of sacrificing bulls. Size: 2" W x 1.9" H (5.1 cm x 4.8 cm)
