Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A handsome leaded bronze signet ring with an incised lion. The shank is comprised of a thin band and the face of the ring is incised with a lion in profile. Individual hairs of the lion's mane are nicely detailed. Signet rings were used as stamps to sign or mark documents, but they also were used to indicate rank or status. A ring with a powerful creature may have been the property of a soldier or warrior. This lovely ring is wearable and has a green patina! Size (opening): .81" Diameter (2.1 cm); (face): .875" W (2.2 cm); US ring size: 9
