Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd century CE. A finely carved white marble section of an arm bent at the elbow, presenting the naturalism aspired to in the Classical World. Notice the veristic modeling of the flesh as well as the realistic positioning of the elbow. A nice section from a larger work that represents the Classical sculptor's goal at attaining the ideal ratios of human anatomy as delineated by Polykleitos' Kanon (also Canon). Size: 5.2" W x 3.95" H (13.2 cm x 10 cm); 6.15" H (15.6 cm) on included custom stand.
