Found in the Tiber River. Ca. 1st century B.C. - 2nd century A.D. Three different medical instruments including a silver scoop having a long thin tapered handle with a tiny ball finial, and opposing round deep ladle. Intact, exc. cond. Together with a bronze surgical knife having a zoomorphic head finial, segmented handle with incised crosshatched decoration and a arch back blade. Possible minor ancient blade tip loss, otherwise intact. Finally, a bronze medical instrument having a small scoop at one end and a two prong fork on the opposing end, and a half circle thumb rest at the lower portion of the handle. Overall strong blue-green encrusted surface patina. Intact, exc. cond. All three are very nice examples. Size: 4-1/2"L. spoon. 6-5/8"L. forked tool. 4-1/2"L. knife.
Provenance: Connecticut collection. Ex. Edward J. Smith collection, Weehawken, N.J., 1970's.
