Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd century CE. A striking and wearable necklace composed of alternating pale purple amethyst beads - carved in both ribbed and smooth spherical forms - centered by an ancient Roman silver coin set in a modern gold bezel. The coin is likely a silver tetradrachm minted in Tyre, Phoenicia during the reign of Emperor Caracalla (r. 198-217 CE). The obverse depicts the laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of the emperor facing right; the reverse features a eagle with wings spread, head turned left, holding a wreath in its beak, and a murex shell between its legs - a symbol of Tyre's famed purple dye industry. The piece is finished with a secure modern gold push clasp, merging ancient Roman heritage with contemporary elegance in a refined and timeless design. Size of strand: 21" L (53.3 cm); coin pendent : 1" Diameter (2.5 cm); gold quality: 59% to 73.6%% (equivalent to 14K+ to 17K+); coin silver quality: 35%
