Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Egypt, Roman period, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A remarkable bronze sculpture of a soldier in stride as he holds out a staff. Wearing a nemes and shendyt, the figure's body is shown in full frontal with his right arm at his side as his head is in three-quarters position, turning to his left. His right hand appears to hold a rope while his left palm is open and holding a petite object that resembles a bird or a pschent. A horned sun disc balances atop the head, suggesting godly status. Size: 1.6" W x 2.8" H (4.1 cm x 7.1 cm); 3.8" H (9.7 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: collection of Dr. W. Benson Harer, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired in 2001; ex-Fragments of Time, Quakertown, Pennsylvania, USA
