Description:

Egypt, Roman period to Coptic culture, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A delightful female idol carved from a hollowed-out bone, probably from livestock or a small wild ungulate, with the contours of the bone forming the shape of her body. She has wide, staring eyes and a naturalistic mouth and nose. She wears flowing clothing, lovingly depicted, and stands with one arm at her side and the other on her stomach. The back of the figure is uncarved. The wide eyes connect her to the ancient Near Eastern, Egyptian, and Greek tradition of carved idols, thought to depict worshippers, their gazes attentive to the gods. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.25" W x 4.55" H (3.2 cm x 11.6 cm); height on stand: 4.95" (12.6 cm)
