Egypt, Romano-Egyptian Period, ca. 30 BCE to 2nd century CE. A diminutive mold-made terracotta oil lamp with a face of Bes in low relief above the spout. Bes was the dwarf deity who watched over the household, particularly the women and children of the home. He was the patron of childbirth with associations to fertility, music, and dancing. Size: 3.25" L x 1.6" W x 1.5" H (8.3 cm x 4.1 cm x 3.8 cm)
