Description:

Egypt, Romano-Egyptian Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful mold-formed terracotta head of Isis with traces of thick white and black pigment. Her elegant visage is composed of almond-shaped eyes, a broad nose, full lips above a rounded chin, slender cheeks, a smooth brow, and a pair of intricate earrings. Her black-and-white painted coiffure is incised with a wavy presentation, and her head is topped with a large headdress featuring a central incised diamond on top and narrow rectangular panels on the front. Isis, an ancient Egyptian goddess, struck a chord with the polytheistic worshippers of the Roman Empire, and her worship spread throughout it during the early centuries of the Imperial Period. Size: 2.3" W x 2.75" H (5.8 cm x 7 cm); 4.3" H (10.9 cm) on included custom stand.
