Description:

Egypt, Romano-Egyptian Period, ca. 30 BCE to 2nd century CE. A miniature ceramic pillar, hollow, undecorated on one side and with the faces of four gods on the other, stacked on top of each other down the length of the pillar. Two are youthful, two older, all seemingly male. The bottom one is probably Bes, the dwarf god, worshipped as the protector of the home. The god above him may be Apollo. During this period, Roman influence in Egypt led to hybrid deities who combined the qualities of native Egyptian and foreign Roman gods, with deities local to where votive objects like this one were produced strongly emphasized. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.6" W x 7.5" H (4.1 cm x 19 cm); height on stand: 10.3" (26.2 cm)
