Sasanian Persia (Iran & Mesopotamia), ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A finely cast Sasanian bronze oil lamp, of elongated form with rounded shoulders tapering to a narrow spout. The broad circular fill-hole rises within a short neck, behind which a tall arched handle is attached. Concentric bands accent the body, lending an elegant sense of proportion. Bronze lamps of this type are characteristic of the late antique Persian world, where they served both practical and ritual functions. The Sasanian Empire, renowned for its luxury metalwork, produced high-quality utilitarian objects that reflected the empires wealth and sophisticated craftsmanship. Oil lamps such as this were likely used in both domestic and religious contexts, offering light in temples, homes, and palaces alike. Size: 6.5" L x 3" H (16.5 cm x 7.6 cm)

- Condition: Missing lid, old patch on neck with irregular hole. Nice darkened patina from centuries of burial. Small hole on base that appears to be deliberate and possible an indication this sat onto a small pointed stand. Areas of surface and internal deposits.
