Sasanian Empire. Ancient Near East. . Ca. Late 6th - early 7th century A.D. Six similar pottery bullae, each originally attached to a document or merchant bundle, all are impressed with a mounted horse and general and holding a spear, horses wearing protective armor. Inscriptions around the borders. Additional seal impressions around the outer borders. One has some ancient loss on outer edge, the remaining five are intact with some minor imperfections. Size: 2-1/2"D. to 3"D.
Provenance: Private NYC. collection, acquired from Sumer Gallery, NYC., Henry anavian, 1980's.
