Description:

**Originally Listed At $200**

Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A robust Viking bronze bracelet formed from a thick rod tightly coiled into five spiraling turns, its surface now rich with a deep earthen patina that speaks to centuries of age. The heavy bronze wire tapers slightly at the ends, one curling outward in a subtle flourish that adds balance to its sculptural form. The coiled design would have allowed the piece to expand and contract slightly when worn, combining practicality with strength and aesthetic power. Such bracelets were prized adornments in Viking culture, worn by both men and women as emblems of wealth, loyalty, and identity. Beyond ornamentation, pieces like this also served as stores of value, often used as hack-silver - cut and traded in fragments as currency during times of commerce or travel. The spiral form, a recurring motif in Norse art, symbolized continuity, cycles, and the enduring motion of life and fate. Size: 2.4" Diameter x 2.3" H (6.1 cm x 5.8 cm)

This piece exemplifies the utilitarian elegance of Viking metalwork - simple in design yet monumental in presence, its coiled form embodying both protection and permanence.
