Middle East, probably Egypt or Morocco, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. Scimitar with traditional curved blade. The blade is incised with a floral and scroll motif and shows remains of gold gilding. The wooden handle features a coil-design grip and bronze lion head with wavy mane and nicely defined facial features. Leather sheath with brass fittings and rings for suspension. The name scimitar derives from the Persian word shamsher which translates to "paw claw" due to its long, curved design. As a bonus, this lot includes a brass bullet mold from similar time period.
