Lorinda Epply (American, 1874-1951). Rookwood Pottery Vase dated 1926. Dated and numbered on base. An elegant ceramic vessel of a classic form, decorated with a berry vine motif outlined in sienna brown and embellished with muted pink, purple, and green hues, over a milky white ground, with dendrite-like glaze patterns delineated in plum hues around the rim and robin's egg blue and violet hues adorning the interior. This beautiful vessel is marked on the base with the Rookwood logo (a back-to-back "R" and "P" surrounded by flames), "1871", "XXVI" indicating the date 1926, and "LE" Lorinda Epply artist's cipher. Size: 2.8" in diameter x 6.625" H (7.1 cm x 16.8 cm)

The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded in 1880 by the artist Maria Longworth-Nichols who created a world-renowned ceramic studio in Cincinnati, Ohio that attracted many reputable artists and ceramicists. Lorinda Epply attended the Cincinnati Art Academy as well as Columbia University. Epply worked at Rookwood from 1904 until 1948, creating works in various glazes. She is best known for her pottery presenting a soft pastel finish via Jewel porcelain glaze.
