Katana is the ancient name for the modern day city of Cantania and is situated on the east coast of the island of Sicily. Mt. Etna is located in close northern proximity and unleashed two powerful earthquakes that destroyed the city. The first was in 1169 CE and the later in 1693 CE. Katana was a very important city in ancient times and exhibited much culture and political power through the region. The ancient coins from this city are aesthetically very pleasing to the eye and for this reason generally attract serious collectors who are willing to pay top prices for the better specimens.
