**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast of Mexico, Veracruz culture, ca. 700 to 900 CE. A figural pottery standing "Sonriente" whistle, the individual stands with one hand on their hip and the other placed on the side of a large and ornate headdress, and the top of said headdress also doubles as a low-tone whistle. The figure also features a long decorated skirt, a sash around the chest, large earrings and necklace, small eyes, and mouth agape. The face is smiling in the classic Sonriente style, and this piece would have been painted brightly when it was first made. Size: 4.25" W x 7" H (10.8 cm x 17.8 cm).

  • Condition: Surface wear commensurate with age, two holes in the feet where a previous stand would have gone, both arms have been reattached, and earthen and mineral deposits throughout. Traces of red and white pigment still visible.
