Description:

Western Europe, Spain / England, Medieval to Post-Medieval period, ca. 11th to 19th century CE. A group of 3 iron and brass fittings, centered by a curved iron panel etched with scrolling foliate motifs over a dense, stippled ground of tiny punched circles, with surviving brass rivet tacks along the edges suggesting it was once secured as an articulated plate, possibly from armor elements such as a tasset or shoulder attachment. Accompanying it is a squarish bronze mount with pierced openwork and the remnant of a loop to one end, consistent with a Medieval horse harness or trapping ornament, along with a symmetrical brass openwork fitting of bold geometric form, retaining traces of large pins on the reverse for fastening. Size: 5" L x 2.3" W (12.7 cm x 5.8 cm)

Provenance: private Dayton, Maryland, USA collection; ex-private F. B. collection, Maryland, USA, acquired between 1990 to 2010
