Description:

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 2nd to 1st century BCE. A stunning pendant made from 85.86% gold (equivalent to 20.6 karats) boasting a broad crescent-like form adorned with elaborate and intricate applied decoration. The hollow adornment is beautifully embellished with a row of 12 projecting nodules around its outer periphery, while its body showcases a gorgeous design of slender wires incised with diagonal striations to present a rope-like presentation, all arranged in spiraling, abstract motifs. An additional border of projecting nodules decorates the bottom edge of the swirling, interior design, followed by 3 additional rope-like wires that line the perimeter of each face. The inward-curving top exhibits several suspension loops on either side with 1 large ring attached to a lower loop.
