Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1470 to 1532 CE. A breathtaking, carved Nacre (Mother of Pearl) amulet presenting a Janus-headed entity comprised of twin outward facing visages with circular eyes inlaid with white shell, aquiline noses, open mouths - as if singing, chanting, praying, or speaking, and a curled hairlock, topped by a tall headdress. There are three tiny perforations - two behind the hair curls and one through the headdress. In addition to the intriguing subject, the coloring (blues, greens, pinks, as well as purples) and marvelous iridescence is absolutely stunning. Size: 2.3" H (5.8 cm); 2.5" H (6.4 cm) on included custom stand.
