Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, north coast, Chimu / Inca culture, ca. 800 to 1400 CE. A woven textile coca bag beautifully decorated on both sides as well as the shoulder strap - the front and back sides of the pouch with a stylized standing anthropomorphic / zoomorphic figure (possibly a transformative shaman) holding ritualistic implements, wearing a checkerboard patterned garment and headdress, above a register of birds - all in hues of gold, black, white, blue, wine, green, and beige against a red ground. The strap is also decorated with birds, and lovely long tassels further adorn the lower corners of the bag. Size: bag measures 8.25" L x 7.75" W (21 cm x 19.7 cm); strap is 36" L (91.4 cm); tassels are about 12" L (30.5 cm)
