Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 500 BCE. A beautiful, hand-built and modeled terracotta "Pretty Lady" presented in a standing pose with a slightly protruding belly, perhaps intended to suggest her pregnant state, and attenuated arms at her sides. Otherwise, she wears a long skirt and is adorned by large round earspools and an elaborate necklace comprised of two strands, each one with incised decoration, the lower strand with shell-shaped danglers embellished with red pigment. Traces of white pigment also remain on the piece. Her visage is quite expressive with large, coffee bean shaped applied eyes and an open mouth perhaps indicating that she is engaged in song or prayer. Crowning this sunny countenance is a centrally parted coiffure. Among the most attractive Pretty Ladies we have ever seen! Custom stand. Size: 5.75" H (14.6 cm); 6.75" H (17.1 cm) on included custom stand.
