Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Ca 300 to 500 CE. A truly spectacular pottery canchero - better known as a corn-popper vessel obviously due to its shape and not function. Lentoid-shaped pottery dipping vessel having rounded bottom and incurving shoulder with opening at top. Decoration on reverse painted in fine-line technique of large raptor, wings outstretched, foliage and snakesabove, mountains below. Reverse painted in white slip over orange-brown ground in repeating wave pattern. 11-1/4"L x 7-1/4"W x 4-1/2"D,
