Ancient Near East. Holyland, the Levant. Ca. 2800 - 1500 B.C. Two similar solid pottery figures depicting the goddess Astarte having a stylized form with a bird-like visage. One example wears a conical headdress, a thick necklace with impressed detailing; and a floor-length, flared dress. She holds both hands over her breasts Her abstract visage displays a pointed, beak-like nose flanked by a pair of huge, target-motif eyes. Strong encrusted surface patina. Ancient loss to the tip of her nose, otherwise intact. Together with a similar example wearing a crested hairdo with stippled details. Intact. Both are very nice examples. Size: 3-7/8"H. 4-1/2"H.
