Description:

**Originally Listed At $200**

Pre-Columbian, Caribbean/Florida, Taino people, 1000 to 1500 CE. A cream-colored clam shell pendant, drilled through for suspension. The shape is of a rough trapezoid with a carved fish possessing anthropomorphic qualities sitting on its top border. The face suggests that this may be a zemi (cemi) - a deity or ancestral spirit who is housed in a sculpted object. The face of the fish/zemi can be seen on one side of the pendant, with wide, staring eyes and almost duck-like lips. Incised, abstract geometric motifs cover the lower part of the pendant. Size: 2.2" W x 2.4" H (5.6 cm x 6.1 cm)

Provenance: Whisnant Gallery, New Orleans, Louisiana USA, acquired over twenty years ago
