Pre-Columbian, Caribbean/Florida, Arawak people, Taino, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. An intriguing statue depicting an abstract squatting figure, hand-carved from porous volcanic stone of a light-grey hue with lightly-patinated ferrous inclusions. The figure holds large hands against bent knees and has hunched shoulders. The stylized countenance boasts raised discoid eyes, a slender nose, puffy lips, and a rounded forehead. Size: 8.4" W x 10.9" H (21.3 cm x 27.7 cm).
