Description:

Pre-Columbian Colombia, circa 1000 - 1550 CE. This example measures approximately 8" tall, and represents a vessel with a bulbous body and a narrow neck, finished in black- typical for most Tairona wares. Zoomorphic appliques were placed on both sides at the shoulder of the vessel, and a punctate design decorates the base of the neck. Provenance: Former Arizona, USA private collection. Authenticity Guaranteed and a Certificate of Authenticity will accompany this lot The starting price is the lowest price at which the lot can sell.

  • Condition: Intact with relatively minor weathering, wear, chips and abrasions overall. Sediment and mineral deposits remain. The vessel leans slightly to one side- not uncommon for Pre-Columbian wares from many ancient cultures, since earthenware vessels often slumped slightly during the firing process. While this detracts little, a little self adhesive felt can be applied to one side of the bottom to level, if desired.
