Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A beautiful hand-built pottery cylinder vessel with a flat base, a lightly-corseted body, a deep interior cavity, and a thick rim. The highly-burnished vessel boasts an elaborate set of two large glyphs, perhaps the heads of deities, their sinuous tendril-form projections colored with deep red-orange pigment and outlined in black, with a register of three-part glyphs along the top border just beneath the rim, and two vertical columns comprised of solid bars enclosing four glyphs each. Size: 4.4" W x 7.2" H (11.2 cm x 18.3 cm).
