Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle / Tonosi, ca. 600 to 1200 CE. A long-necked vessel decorated with highly abstracted zoomorphic forms - what looks like a series of eyes staring out of darkness at the viewer around the neck and shoulder. To the ancient Panamanians, these exquisitely painted motifs would have conjured a known mythic or Shamanic being. Geometric design elements were imbued with powerful symbolism, and researchers believe that the black symbolizes the female and the red symbolizes the male. Size: 6.4" W x 9.85" H (16.3 cm x 25 cm)
