Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period, 21st to 22nd Dynasty, ca. 1069 to 720 BCE. A beautiful and sizable example of an ushabti that is hand-carved from yellowed limestone. The figure presents standing in mummiform - with fused legs and arms crossed atop the chest - while a tripartite wig rests atop the pate with lappets draped atop the chest. Almond eyes, a petite nose, tapered cheeks, and delicate lips define the stylized countenance, and remains of black, white, and red-orange pigment are visible mostly across the obverse. A rare funerary figure at this size! Size: 2.5" L x 3.5" W x 9.9" H (6.4 cm x 8.9 cm x 25.1 cm); 10.875" H (27.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Cf. J-F. Aubert, Statuettes égyptiennes, Paris, 1974, for stone ushabtis.
