Description:

South Italic, Magna Graecia, Tarentum, ca. late 4th century BCE. A mold-formed terracotta votive bust of delicate form featuring a stylized woman, perhaps the goddess Turna. The dignified figure is draped in a veil, her hair braided and bunched on top, while holding a slender pomegranate in her raised right hand. The countenance is comprised of gentle eyes beneath thin brows, a slender nose, full lips with a delineated philtrum, and petite ears, all above a uniform neck. Remains of white and orange pigment are visible in scattered areas across the surface, indicating that this was finely decorated at one time. Size: 8.625" W x 8.625" H (21.9 cm x 21.9 cm); 9.5" H (24.1 cm) on included custom stand.
