Description:

Egypt, the Levant, or Cyprus, Tell el-Yahudiyeh (Tell el-Yahudiya), Middle Bronze Age IIA to IIC period / Middle Kingdom to Second Intermediate Period, Dynasty XII to XVII, ca. 1850 to 1550 BCE. An elegant pottery juglet boasting a graceful form enveloped in a black glaze and intricately incised with several horizontal registers of dotted and geometric motifs, each filled with white pigment to add contrast. Sitting upon a narrow, ring-form foot, the vessel presents a bulbous body, a wide, rounded shoulder, an attenuated, tubular neck, a flared rim, and a bifurcated handle connecting rim to shoulder. Tell el-Yahudiya ware is named after the site in the southeastern Nile Delta where W.M. Flinders Petrie first found examples of this type. Quite popular in the ancient world, pottery like this example was initially produced in the levant then spread to the eastern Mediterranean, Egypt, and Nubia. It has been found in many Levantine and Cypriot sites. Size: 2.6" Diameter x 4.8" H (6.6 cm x 12.2 cm)
