Description:

East Asia, China, Song to early Yuan Dynasty, ca. 960 to 1368 CE. An intriguing Qingbai ware funerary vessel from southern China, used to hold grain and other offerings within a tomb or temple. Coated in a pale mint-green celadon glaze, the vessel features a columnar body, rounded shoulders, an elongated neck, and a scalloped lip below the circular mouth, with small loop handles likely intended for securing a lid or suspension cords. Molded relief decorations adorn the neck, depicting a celestial realm with a soaring dragon, crane or phoenix, swirling clouds, a turtle, prancing deer, and a seated figure above a register of bearded men in long robes. Qingbai ware - meaning "greenish white" - was celebrated for its refined beauty and served both practical and symbolic roles in burial, domestic, and temple contexts. Size: 7" W x 28.75" H (17.8 cm x 73 cm)
