Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Teotihuacan culture, 1st to 5th century. Attractive pair of Teotihuacan vessels, starting with a magnificent florero, notable for its elegant, elongated neck and widely flared rim. This design may have originated elsewhere; however, the Teotihuacanos perfected it and created floreros from the first century AD until the city collapsed in 650 AD. The clean lines of this vessel are indicative of the refined abstract stylings of Teotihuacan. The tripod vessel boasts nicely modeled vertical striations on its walls perhaps intended to represent a phytomorphic form. Impressive burnishing is evident on the surface. This ceramic technique involved rubbing a hard stone along the unfired clay surface to align the tiny clay particles that form the "skin" of the piece. When these particles align a lovely shiny surface results. 6"H x 4 1/4"D at widest (florero) and 4"H x 4 5/8"D at widest (tripod vessel)
