Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Teotihuacan, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A fine human figure that is hand-carved from mottled forest greenstone with light green and gray inclusions. The stylized anthropomorphic figure stands atop delineated legs and holds both arms to the tapered waist, and angular shoulders taper inwards to form the broad neck base. The enlarged head exhibits recessed ovoid eyes between thick lids, incised nasolabial folds that create a triangular profile for the nose and mouth, and a pair of vertical, tab-shaped ears beneath the narrowed forehead. Size: 1.4" W x 3.25" H (3.6 cm x 8.3 cm); 3.625" H (9.2 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Repaired from roughly three large pieces, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to obverse, peripheries, and verso, with light encrustations within some recessed areas, and chipping to front of left foot. Nice remains of detailing to face and body.
