Thailand, ca. 18th century. Large cast bronze Buddha on an integral tiered base. Buddha depicted looking slightly downwards, with a serene facial expression and having inset mother of pearl eyes, tightly knotted hairdo with an usnisa (top bun, it represents the "crown" of a Buddha, signifying supreme wisdom, enlightenment, and status as the King of the Dharma), elongated ears. Wearing a pleated dhoti strung over his right shoulder. Holding hands in bhumisparsa and dhyana mudra (earth touching). Headband is inset with red, green and clear light blue glass embedments. An impressive example. Size: 24.75”H x 17.75”W (62.9 x 45.1cm).
