Europe, Italy, Venice, found in western Africa, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. A wonderful set of 3 wearable necklaces, each strung with dozens of hand-formed glass trade beads in a myriad of vibrant colors. The first necklace features large beads in tubular, spherical, and barrel forms displaying stripes, bands, speckles, and rope-twist motifs. The second necklace is constructed primarily with black beads bearing integral yellow banding, and some beads bearing green, blue, and red hues are interspersed throughout. The largest necklace is replete with translucent, lozenge-shaped beads with lengthwise banding, though some have diagonal stripes coursing across their surfaces. Size (lozenge necklace): 24.375" L (61.9 cm); (largest bead): 0.65" L x 0.28" W (1.7 cm x 0.7 cm); (black bead necklace): 24.25" L (61.6 cm); (largest bead): 0.58" W x 0.39" H (1.5 cm x 1 cm); (large bead necklace): 23.5" L (59.7 cm); (largest bead): 0.97" L x 0.43" W (2.5 cm x 1.1 cm)

  • Condition: Wearable as shown and strung in modern times. Glass beads are from the stated period; stringing and silver-plated components on one necklace are modern. All beads have light abrasions, with some having nicks and minor weathering to surfaces. Great preservation to coloration throughout.
