Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1070 BCE. A set of 3 hand-carved steatite scarabs, each with a different decorative motif on its underside. The first scarab features a scarab flanked by a pair of Maat feathers; the second scarab with the head of the goddess Hathor flanked by rearing cobra heads; and the third bearing curvilinear motifs as well as 2 shen rings symbolic of eternal protection. Size of each (all are relatively similar): 0.6" L x 0.4" W (1.5 cm x 1 cm)

Provenance: private Charlotte, North Carolina, USA collection; ex-Joel Malter collection, prior to 2004
