Jon Zahourek (American, b. 1940). Three female nude figure studies. Ink on paper, n.d. All signed. A lovely trio of life drawings by American artist Jon Zahourek, each a figure study of a female nude. Two rendered in black ink and one in red, the ensemble comprises of simple sketches of dynamic poses. The figure seated with her back to the viewer is purported to be dance artist and choreographer Caroline Butcher. As an artist, Zahourek developed a great passion for rendering the human body and eventually created a system for teaching anatomy. This trio of sensual compositions certainly demonstrates Zahourek's enthusiasm for both his artistic process and the human body. Size of largest: 13.75" W x 17" H (34.9 cm x 43.2 cm)

In the 1960s, Jon Zahourek dropped out of college to become an artist. By way of Taos, New Mexico and later Denver, Colorado Zahourek was part of a thriving community of artists, exhibiting his work with prominent contemporaries including Ned Jacobs, Buffalo Kaplinski, George Carlson, and Fritz White. In the 1970s, Zahourek moved to New York to teach painting. He continued as an artist and educator, and eventually fueled his passion for anatomy into developing a system for teaching anatomy which has been used by more than 6,000 classrooms across the United States.

  • Condition: All are signed. Two more petite drawings have serrated edge from being taken from spiral notebook. Red drawing has minor tear to lower right and folded lower right corner. Red and larger black have some discoloring and staining in areas Largest has two pieces of tape to one edge. Otherwise, all have clear imagery.
