Description:

**Originally Listed At $250**

Northern Europe / Central Asia, Viking Rus or Finno-Ugric culture, ca. 10th to 13th century CE. Three cast bronze penannular brooches (fibulae) of the distinctive Mordvinian style, featuring granulated surfaces. This design incorporates the traditional penannular loop with an articulating pin, but with expanded terminal ends - flat isosceles triangle shapes adorned with additional rings. These rings along the peripheries were used to attach decorative chain links or strings, often with dangling beads; one brooch even retains remnants of embedded threads in several loops. Flashing metal ornaments and jangling chains were a widespread stylistic feature across Central Asia and Northern Europe during this period, designed to attract attention both visually and audibly. Size: 2.25" L x 1.5" W (5.7 cm x 3.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-T.F. Holy Lands collection, formed since the 1960s; ex-Austrian collection, 1980s
