Europe and North America, World War I and World War II, ca. 1914 to 1944 CE. A poignant grouping of four trench art objects reflects the personal and devotional expressions of soldiers across two world wars. The lot includes a WWI Slovak cross inscribed "Na pamatku Svetovej Vojny" - "In Memory of the World War" - dated 1914-15-1916 and bearing the name Tavel Moravek; a German WWI wood and metal crucifix dated 1917, inscribed "Jesus allein" - "Jesus Alone" - with additional verso markings; a German WWI metal cross mounted on a base marked "KZ.11.Gr / L.J.W. 16," indicating manufacture from a 1916-era explosive component; and a WWII American or Canadian bracelet engraved "Sicily 1944," referencing the Allied campaign. Crafted from a range of materials including zinc, copper-nickel alloy, leaded brass, lead alloys, tin-lead alloy, copper alloy, and brass, the pieces embody the resourcefulness and sentiment of wartime creation.
