Description:

Native American, Northwest Coast United States, Alaska, Inuit, Pre-Contact / Thule period, ca. 1200 to 1600 CE. A pair of stone and bone tools from before contact with European whalers / settlers, likely made by Thule people, ancestors of the modern Inuit culture. One is a knapped stone blade with smooth edges, perhaps from exposure to water, and the other is an ulu knife. The slightly curved stone knife and parallel placement of the bone handle facilitates a rocking motion when cutting or chopping that conveniently enabled single handed use. Size of ulu knife: 4.2" L x 2.25" W (10.7 cm x 5.7 cm)
