Description:

Pre-Columbian, Chile, Tiahuanaco (also Tiwanaku), ca. 400 to 700 CE. A finely woven hat of a simple conical style with a layered brown-and-tan chromatic scheme. The tip of the hat is decorated with a smooth tuft of human hair. Hats made by both the Tiahuanaco and the Huari cultures were comprised of camelid fibers that were skillfully prepared into yarns and then dyed in colorful hues. Artists from both cultures also favored simple geometric designs as well as minimalist motifs like this example. Size: 6.375" W x 6.75" H (16.2 cm x 17.1 cm)
