Description:

Central Asia, Himalayan region, Tibet/Nepal, ca. mid-20th century CE; South America, Ecuador/Peru, Amazon Rainforest, Jivaroan people, Shuar tribe, ca. 20th to 21st century CE. A varied group of South American weapons and horn vessels. Included is a long dark wooden blow dart pipe adorned with raffia and seed bead tassels, with a side tube holding slender wooden darts tipped with kapok fibers, its pyrodecorated and pristine surface suggesting it was likely produced for tourist sale. A bamboo tube accompanied by a hollow gourd filled with kapok fibers may have served as a sheath for additional darts. Also featured is a large yak horn drinking vessel from the Himalayas, once used for chhaang (traditional barley beer), fitted with brass bands and a twisted fiber suspension cord. Completing the group is a smaller horn container, likely a powder horn, with iron eyelets for a leather cord and simple leather flaps capping its wider end. Size of large drinking horn: 15.5" L x 4" W (39.4 cm x 10.2 cm)
