Description:

Pre-Columbian, Western Venezuela, Andean region, Timoto-Cuica culture, ca. 1000 CE. A rare example of a hand-built pottery pipe with a lengthy stem, a pair of nubbin legs, a bulbous receptacle body, and a flared rim. The front of the receptacle presents a highly abstract anthropomorphic countenance with bulging, slit-form eyes, a bulbous nose above a thin mouth, perky ears, and a pair of vertical striations along the neckline. Traces of original orange and brown pigment are visible along the face, receptacle body, and rim. Size: 4.3" L x 1.7" W x 2.3" H (10.9 cm x 4.3 cm x 5.8 cm)
